Department of Mechanical Technology And ACR

The Department of Mechanical Technology at the Technical Trainers College TTC currently offers a Bachelor degree in Production Technology. Further specialties in Automation, Metal Construction and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration will complement the study program from 2010 onwards.
Mechanical Technology has shown significant advancements during recent years, in particular with respect to the application of new materials and electronic / computer aided control of mechanical manufacturing and process technology (CAD/CNC/CAM). To cope with global technological developments is a prerequisite to enhance the competitiveness of Saudi Arabia´s economy. The state-of-the-art training program at the Department of Mechanical Technology of TTC will enable qualified graduates to adopt a career as vocational trainer.
The Bachelor programs in Production Technology, Automation and Metal Construction share identical training modules in the respective vocational fields during the first three semesters. Forces / systems of forces applied to mechanical devices of specific materials forms the core of the theoretical part. Materials technology represents an essential part during the first two semesters. The practical training in the basic vocational field includes Machining Technology (milling, drilling, turning, cutting, grinding), Forming Technology (bending, shearing, folding, rolling, punching), Welding Technology (including advanced techniques like MAG/MIG/TIG), Machine Elements (in particular gears, clutches and bearings) and Maintenance and Repair. These modules are complemented by Advanced Technical Drawing including extensive programming and Electrical Power and Control Circuits to account for todays ever increasing role of electronic and computer aided control. It should be noted that the integrated teaching approach at TTC disclaims the classic division into theory and practice but, whenever possible, tries to combine both aspects for a most efficient learning process.

The skills and competencies of the trainees will be further developed in the second part of the program Production Technology. Mechanical properties of materials are modified by an appropriate heat treatment with subsequent quantitative materials testing. Computer controlled machining (CNC milling and turning) and combined forming tasks including joining and warm and cold processing are complemented by current quality control methods. Finally, complex manufacturing and production processes (from the raw material to the final product and follow up maintenance and repair) are executed.

Requirements and Application

Applications to take part in the TTC training program are welcomed from young Saudis having graduated from a College of Technology (CoT) and who are interested in pursuing a career as a vocational trainer.

TTC selects applicants according to qualification in GPA and knowledge of English language. Furthermore, the applicant’s interest and motivation to become a vocational trainer will be decisive for being admitted to the college. TTC trainees receive a monthly scholarship of 1.000 SAR. Additional information can be retrieved from the call for application on TTC’s webpage and on TVTC’s homepage.
