The Department of Electrical Technology and Electronics offers two Bachelor degrees: A degree in Electrical Machines and a degree in Electronics. Currently, electronic products and devices play a vital role in our private and professional life: Ranging from mobile phones and television to the internet, which is working on sophisticated fibre-optic cables, all work with electronic circuits. Electronics are at the very heart of computer systems, telecommunications technologies and transportation systems. Over the past decade digital technology has revolutionized the life of mankind. As electronic devices and technologies are evolving rapidly a solid and modern education has become even more important in order to successfully work in the electronics sector. The TTC offers a hands-on approach to technical education and provides its trainees with state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to thorough training in their technical field, trainees are exposed to courses in vocational pedagogy which prepare them for a career as a successful vocational trainer. Graduates of the TTC will be able to teach a new generation of students in the field of electrical engineering. In addition to broad general training in the field of electrical engineering, trainees at the TTC will acquire extensive knowledge in two fields of specialisation within their vocational field. They will thus be able to comprehensively teach at any Technical College in Saudi Arabia in their chosen vocational discipline as well as two further specialisations. The first year of training focuses on the fundamentals of electrical and electronic principles and builds upon the syllabus of Saudi Technical Institutes. The trainees’ knowledge of power transmissions is built on a solid foundation of basic physics and mathematics. Furthermore, trainees will be instructed in the basics of electro technology and how to create and read technical documents and drawings. The design of digital, combinational and sequential circuits and instruction on different types of measurements also form an important part of the syllabus. During the latter stage of the Bachelor’s programme each trainee will further receive training in his chosen field of specialisation. Trainees choosing ‘Electronics’ will learn to plan, develop and maintain advanced laboratory experiments and to overview different types of embedded systems such as microcontrollers. Trainees specializing the speciality ‘Electrical Machines’ will acquire detailed knowledge in the handling, rewinding, maintaining and repairing of different electrical devices such as single respectively three phase motors. Additionally they will be trained to operate and control sophisticated electrical machines and motors operating industrial installations ranging from power stations to factories. During the last semester each trainee will plan and conduct a Bachelor’s project in a relevant field.Requirements and Application Applications to take part in the TTC training program are welcomed from young Saudis having graduated from a College of Technology (CoT) and who are interested in pursuing a career as a vocational trainer. TTC selects applicants according to qualification in GPA and knowledge of English language. Furthermore, the applicant’s interest and motivation to become a vocational trainer will be decisive for being admitted to the college. TTC trainees receive a monthly scholarship of 1.000 SAR.
